This week we’re introducing you to Bonnie! She’s our graphic designer extraordinaire who does most of the food styling (and cooking/baking!) you see all over our catalog and website. She’s telling us all about her favorite family vacation, first car and worst ever job.
What is your name?
Bonnie Michel
What’s your title at TableCraft?
Graphic designer
What exactly would you say you do here? (hopefully you read that like the guy from Office Space)
Visual communication – sometimes chef and food/prop stylist. “Has anyone seen my red Swingline stapler?”
What values do you try to uphold in and out of the office?
Kindness, empathy and optimism
Favorite part of working at TableCraft?
Co-workers and styling
What did you do before TableCraft?
I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of varied work in the design field. The most left-field position was as a design assistant at a necktie company in San Rafael, CA creating colorways for men’s ties and boxers. Just before joining TCP, I was doing freelance graphic design work.
Describe TableCraft in 3 words?
Supportive, rewarding and customer-focused
What’s your favorite podcast?
“Serial” and “Blackout”
What’s your favorite TV show?
“Westworld” “The Late Show with Stephen Cobert” and “The X-Files”
What’s your favorite movie?
I’m going to have fun with this one. Pulling some quotes from movies I like to watch over and over again.
“Now go away or I will taunt you a second time”
“This… is my boomstick”
“I carried the watermelon”
“Adieu, adieu to yieu and yieu and yieu”
“Evil Dead” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” “Dirty Dancing” “The Sound of Music”
What’s your favorite meal?
I love breakfast, especially a savory one.
Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?
Utah. We really loved the Arches National Park — hiking and camping among the beautiful sandstone formations. San Francisco/Marin County would be my other favorite place. I love the mix of nature and cultural things to do. In the same day, you can go hiking in Muir Woods and end the day at a winery in Sonoma or Napa, or an art museum in San Fran.
What’s the place you’d most like to travel to?
Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu, Peru.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation
Who was your childhood crush?
I married him. ♥
What was your first car?
A baby blue AMC Eagle station wagon. It was dubbed the “pony wagon” by my friends. Boy could I fit a lot of friends in that car!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t dwell on yesterday.
Worst job you’ve ever had?
Detasseling corn. Staggering out the door 0-dark-hundred to be in the fields walking through the muddy rows of wet corn pulling the tassels from the tops of the corn plants all the while walking through spider webs, getting nicks on your arms when you don’t have your long sleeve shirt because it’s the dead of Summer. Fun times.
How would you spend $1 million dollar?
Pay for the kids’ college education, be debt free and invest the rest. Okay, I might have to buy a late 50’s Jaguar XKSS or a 60’s E-type. Sorry kiddos. There’s a nice community college nearby…
If I gave you 3 wishes, what would they be? (Aladdin rules)
Health and happiness for my family and I. Be independently wealthy. My kitchen messes are magically cleaned up. Wait, what am I thinking — the whole house is cleaned up with the snap of my fingers!
