Today’s TableCraft employee spotlight is shining on Amy, our Hufflepuff graphic designer who loves all the sparkles and marshmallow people.

What is your name?

Amy Waala-Hay. For everyone that has ever asked – though my last name may sound Hawaiian, sadly it is not.  My maiden name (Waala) is Norwegian and my married name (Hay) is Scottish! I only hyphenate it professionally to keep you all on your toes!

What’s your title at TableCraft?

Graphic Designer

What exactly would you say you do here? (hopefully you read that like the guy from Office Space)

Make all the things sparkle! AND THEN SOME.

What values do you try and uphold to in and out of the office?

To always be a source of kindness, reliability & creativity. Don’t like my niceness? ITS OKAY, BRO.

Favorite part of working at TableCraft?

My work peeps, of course! So sweet and marshmallow-y. They keep me challenged and laughing.

What did you do before TableCraft?

I’ve previously designed packaging, marketing materials and tradeshow graphics for a number of housewares brands and more recently, I designed print collateral and in-store signage for a college textbook company and university bookstores nationwide. My go-to design work however, is forever and always wedding stationary!

Describe TableCraft in 3 words?

Family, longevity & service

What’s your favorite podcast?

“Stuff You Missed in History Class” because it calms me during the 2.5 hours I spend commuting every day aaaaaand makes me feel smart. I’m rather picky about my podcast formats and voices…i.e. if your podcast sounds like talk radio, I’m turning you off!

What’s your favorite TV show?

I’m a Gilmore Girl for life! The Office and Parks & Rec are also my go-to’s for laughs and zoning out. I mix in some Lost and Game of Thrones for balance, intrigue and Jon Snow heart eyes.

What’s your favorite movie?

“Amélie” because its everything I love – the score, the story, the cinematography, all of it.

Netflix, Hulu or something else?

All the things! Thank you, Apple TV!

What’s your favorite meal?

Anything pizza! Oh! Breakfast for Dinner! Unrelated, but if you’re ever in Des Moines, Iowa, stop at Zombie Burger for a Zombie Unicorn Shake. If you love Fruity Pebbles, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Favorite place you’ve ever traveled to?

My husband and I took a mega road trip for a week in June 2017. We drove over 4,000 miles and hit the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Custer’s Last Stand, the Great Tetons, the Rockies, Garden of the Gods and so much more. We even stopped for a Rockies vs. Angels baseball game in Denver! But the best part, hands down was the ever beautiful Yellowstone National Park. It was like another world and so gorgeous you could cry. Go there! Do it now! Bring tissues!

If you could choose one superpower to have, what would it be and why?

Apparition (or teleportation for you muggles out there) I could travel the world SO FAST. I used to love the idea of being able to camouflage or fly but naaah, teleportation is where its at.

Spring, summer, winter, or fall?

Fall is when everything good happens. And December. [insert all the hearts here]

Light or dark side?

HUFFLEPUFF

What was your first car?

A 15-year-old Chevy Malibu that conveniently drew her last breath on a Chicago expressway during rush hour. But hey, she hit 260K miles! I sound excited now, but in the moment, it was the woooorst.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Nothing changes if nothing changes! Couldn’t be more true!

Choose 1: 3 inches in height, look 10 years younger, eat without gaining weight, $200k?

Eating anything I wanted without the added stress of gaining weight or trying to lose weight is 100% worth the $200k. For realz. You’d save that much on gym memberships and health foods! 😉 Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get more steps in and eat a salad because this is real life.

The ‘Meet TableCraft’ series is an employee spotlight to help explain exactly what our employees do, who they are, and why they’re are happy to call themselves part of the TableCraft family. Now you get the opportunity to know the person you’ve been talking to over the phone or email a little bit better.
