Ingredients

  • 225g plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ tsp baking powder
  • 40g lard or vegetable fat
  • 150ml warm water

Tools

  • Cast Iron Tortilla Press (10711)
  • Mixing Bowl (823)
  • Measuring Spoon Set (722)
  • Tri-Ply Frying Pan (CW7016)

Directions

  • Mix the flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Rub in the fat, stir in the water and knead lightly to a soft dough. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to rest for 15 minutes. Divide into 12 pieces and shape into balls.
  • Take a lightly greased piece of parchment paper and place in the tortilla press. Take a dough ball, then place between the layers. Fold the press close and squeeze down to form 15-18cm discs.
  • Heat a heavy frying pan, add one tortilla and cook for 1-2 minutes, turning over as soon as the surface starts to bubble. It should stay flexible. Remove from the pan and wrap in a damp cloth. Keep warm whilst cooking the remaining tortillas before serving.
